How to turn a job post into resume bullets

A job post is not just a list of duties. It is a buyer brief. The employer is telling you what evidence they want to see. A good AI-assisted resume workflow starts by extracting that evidence map before you rewrite anything.

1. Pull out the requirements first

Paste the job post into your AI tool and ask for three separate lists: hard requirements, repeated keywords, and responsibilities that imply measurable outcomes. Keep the lists separate so you do not turn every sentence into the same generic bullet.

Prompt idea: From this job post, extract the hard requirements, repeated keywords, and responsibilities that should be supported by proof in a resume. Do not write resume bullets yet.

2. Choose only the requirements you can prove

The goal is not to mirror every keyword. The goal is to identify where your actual work overlaps with the role. For each major requirement, write one real project, result, tool, customer problem, process, or team responsibility from your background.

3. Convert weak bullets into evidence bullets

Start from what you actually did. Then ask AI to make the wording tighter, clearer, and closer to the role's language. Do not let it invent numbers, tools, clients, or responsibilities you cannot defend in an interview.

Weak: Responsible for reporting and team communication.

Better: Built weekly status reports from project updates and customer notes, giving managers a clearer view of blockers before planning meetings.

4. Use the job post language without copying it

If the post says "stakeholder management," your resume can use that phrase when it is true. But the bullet still needs a real action behind it. A keyword without proof reads like filler; proof without relevant language can be missed by a busy reviewer.

5. Check the final bullet against the interview test

Before submitting, read each AI-assisted bullet and ask: could I tell the story behind this sentence in a phone screen? If not, revise it until it is honest, specific, and defensible.
