Resume checklist
ATS resume keyword gap checklist.
Before you ask AI to rewrite a resume, compare the job description with your real experience. The goal is not to chase a fake ATS score or stuff keywords. The goal is to find the requirements you can prove, the proof you need to surface, and the gaps you should handle honestly. The linked scanner runs in your browser with no upload or signup.
Step 1
Separate keywords from proof requirements.
Some words are just labels, like CRM, budgeting, stakeholder management, SQL, or customer success. Others imply proof: owned a workflow, reduced a delay, trained a team, reconciled data, managed escalations, or shipped a project. Put those in separate columns before rewriting.
Checklist: keyword / requirement / where it appears / proof I have / proof I need / resume section to update.
Step 2
Mark every requirement as covered, partial, or gap.
A covered requirement has a real example you can explain. A partial requirement has adjacent experience that needs careful wording. A gap should not become a fake claim. It can become a cover-letter learning note, an interview question to prepare for, or a skill to build.
Step 3
Rewrite only around evidence you can defend.
AI can tighten wording and make role-fit language easier to see. It should not invent metrics, tools, employers, customers, certifications, or responsibilities. If a bullet would make you nervous in a phone screen, it is not ready.
Prompt idea: Improve this resume bullet for the target role using only my notes. If the job-post keyword is not supported, label it as a gap instead of adding it.
Step 4
Use the ATS-style scanner as a second pass.
The free Resume Keyword Scanner compares the job description with your resume or experience notes in the browser. It does not estimate a real employer ATS score. It shows likely covered keywords, likely gaps, and the requirements that deserve another look.

Step 5
Turn the map into application materials.
Once the gaps are clear, use the strongest covered requirements to shape resume bullets, the cover-letter angle, follow-up notes, and interview stories. The same evidence map should drive the whole application, not just the resume.
Quick checklist
- Paste the job post and list repeated keywords.
- List the requirements that need proof.
- Match each requirement to a real project, task, result, tool, or customer problem.
- Mark weak or unsupported requirements as partial or gap.
- Rewrite bullets around supported proof only.
- Check each edited bullet against the interview test.
- Use the same evidence map for the cover letter and follow-up.
